Grace In Your Face: A Reflection
Last year over 200 kids from all over South Carolina attended and had a great time. 8 kids got saved last year as well. The first time a hardcore/metal show hit the campus of North Greenville. This year a friend of mine asked me to do what I could, as the radio station manager of our on campus radio station, to promote the show that we would be holding in a couple of months. Without hesitation I was happy to help him out because I knew how much it would reach out to people who wouldn’t normally step foot on our campus. As the manager of our station I really was encouraged by the fact that we were stepping outside of the box to reach kids and sharing the love of Jesus with them through hardcore music. I was super stoked for this show and ready for it to go down on November 13th.A month passed, promotion continued, and it went down last night! I got some of our guys to help setup, the sound guy had some people to help as well, and the bands were all there to setup their own instruments, amps, etc. It really wasn’t that bad of a time getting everything ready for the show. Doors opened up at 5 and kids started pouring in. The show was set to start at 6, and some of the bands were still getting their gear out of their vans and trailers. We started on time and it sounded amazing. God really brought a lot of people together from different backgrounds all to give him glory last night through that insanely loud music. I got to talk to a few guys in the bands and they were all super nice. It was really a blessing to get to be a part of the show. Every person i’ve talked to since last night has said they enjoyed it and would like to see it happen again. However, Jonny from Ruins passed out. We had to have EMT’s come over and once they came over we had administration from the school there as well to make sure everything else was going well. Somehow lines got crossed and we were suppose to have faculty there, which didn’t happen. There was miscommunication between myself and the guys putting the show together. My apologies to them and no hard feelings to them or any of the bands. This instance got me thinking…How many times do we ignore the rules we are given? I’m not saying that WE intentionally ignored rules of not having a NGU faculty person there, but somehow it just happend. Do you pay attention to details? Even if you think in your mind that everything is going right, sometimes important details get lost in translation, or misplaced. Make sure guys that you remember the details. That’s all I have for now. I’ll be posting the pics I took of the show this week sometime when I get the chance.
I came back to school from Fall break and couldn’t stop. I was eating dinner with friends whom I haven’t seen in a couple of days after being gone and I couldn’t quit. Enjoying the company of those friends, I couldn’t stop. What was I doing that was unstoppable?
I was laughing. Yea, that’s right, LAUGHING!
You might be thinking, Brian, you are blogging about laughing. Yes, I am. Ya see…God has blessed me with some of the best friends. When I’m having rough days they are able to change that, just by allowing me to laugh. At their stupidity, jokes, what have you. I am very thankful for the friends I have here at school and can’t think of anyone who I’d like to spend my college carrer with besides them. I also appreciate the fact that our group of friends has grown and isn’t keeping to ourselves. We talk to new people, make new friends, and go outside of our “group” to be friends with others.
John 15:13 NIVGreater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Do you have friends like that? One’s that you can laugh with?
009/365 crazy good new apple cinnamon muffins they have in the cafe now.
005/365 (Project 365) construction scraps and trash in a pile on campus. This looks bad but other parts of campus are nice. Can’t wait to see everything completed.
Day 3 (Project 365) adding songs to the radio station library. Takes a while but it needs to be done
Day 2 (Project 365)
On the road to NGU.
